On the southwest side of Cedar Rapids, Lodge #251 has been doing what Elks do best: bringing people together over cold drinks, loud music, and causes that matter. The 4.1-star rating from 84 members and guests reflects something real, not a marketing campaign. People come back because the bar staff actually know how to treat a crowd, the dance floor fills up on band nights, and the karaoke sessions run long because nobody wants to stop.

The lodge sits at 801 33rd Ave SW, a straightforward address in a neighborhood that knows the value of a place you can count on. Craft shows, singles dances, fundraisers, and community events cycle through the calendar, making it a genuine hub rather than a building that opens twice a year. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has been serving American communities since 1868, and Lodge #251 carries that charge with a distinctly Iowa practicality.

If you have never walked through the doors, the easiest way to understand it is this: the people here showed up for their neighbors before it was trendy. Membership is open, the events are worth your Friday night, and the lodge is always looking for the next person who wants to be part of something that outlasts any single event on the calendar.

What We Offer

Lodge #251 runs a full slate of events that cover the range from rowdy to meaningful. Live band nights pack the dance floor with local and regional acts worth hearing. Karaoke draws a loyal crowd that treats the mic seriously, and first-timers are welcomed rather than endured. The bar is staffed by people who move fast and keep it friendly, which is exactly what a lodge bar should be.

Beyond the entertainment, the lodge hosts community gatherings including craft shows, charity fundraisers, and member dinners that put real food on the table. The Elks National Foundation backs youth scholarships, veterans programs, and community grants, meaning your membership dues do work beyond the building itself. Recurring events like singles dances give members a low-pressure way to meet people from across the Cedar Rapids area.

Membership in the Order of Elks opens access to all of it: the hall rentals, the social calendar, the national network of lodges, and the satisfaction of belonging to an organization with a track record measured in generations rather than quarters.

"Well, this review could change, but as for now it is a below zero star rating. There was supposed to be a craftshow held there tomorrow, but due to some impending weather, it is being delayed one day. Well, unfortunately, I will not be able to be there due to a christmas program at our church. And the organizers are refusing to refund my $42 fee. It is of no fault of my own, so the organizers need to step up and do the right thing. If they fail to do so, there are a lot of, how should I said it, "ticked off vendors" that will never be there ever again. So, please let the people in charge know that they need to step up and do the right thing."

"Best broasted chicken in town! Also a best kept secret, which I wish would change. If you've never been here for dinner come now, food is good, atmosphere is quiet, people are super friendly, and we love kids! The next time you're looking for a family night out without having to spend a whole lot of money, check out the Elks. You will be pleasantly surprised."

A Proud Heritage

The Elks gave America
Flag Day.

Long before it was a national observance, the Order set aside June 14th to honor the flag. Patriotism has always been one of our cardinal principles, and every lodge meeting still closes the same way it has for over a century.
